Meet our wonderful Book Club facilitator, Michael!
Hello there! I'm Michael, a relatively recent transplant to Atlanta, along with my wonderful wife, Fernanda, and our four-legged companions - two adorable dogs, Emma and Maia, and a very mischievous cat - Steve. In a previous life, I worked as a research scientist at the University of Florida (where I received my PhD in ecology) and at the University of California, Davis, where my passion for wildlife ecology and conservation took me on thrilling adventures to various rainforests around the world.
Time in the rainforest provided me with a perfect escape (not many wifi hotspots around!), and I spent countless hours lost in my books. Since my childhood days, when I first discovered the fascinating worlds of The Hobbit and Dune, I've been captivated by the magic of science fiction and fantasy (SFF). Today, some of my favorite SFF works include Steven Erikson's epic Malazan Book of the Fallen, the gritty world of Joe Abercrombie's The First Law, and the enchanting prose of Robin Hobb's The Realm of the Elderlings.
Since settling here in Virginia Highlands, and visiting our wonderful local bookstore, I've been wanting to connect with fellow SFF enthusiasts (or anyone who is interested in venturing into this world!) to share our passion for reading and visiting strange and exciting new places. I'm excited to kick-off this new bookclub and meet with you all soon!
